Tips for Finding a Plumber

When you have a plumbing problem, you need a plumber and in a hurry. That is the thing about plumbing when it breaks it is a huge problem and usually a big mess. So it is best to have a relationship already established with a plumber in the area. This way you already know who you are going to call when an emergency happens.

The first thing that you need to know about your plumber is whether or not they are going to be available when you need them. Unfortunately most plumbing emergencies are not during business hours. There are some plumbers that have 24 hour lines. You can call them and schedule them to come early the next day or, if it is a true emergency , right then. At the very least, you need someone who can answer the phone to walk you through shutting the water off.

Next, you want to get references. You can ask the plumber directly for references or check out their social media pages. This will give you an insight on how well their customer service department responds to problems. It will also give you an idea of what to expect. For example, if they are habitually early or late to your appointment, do they complete the work within the quoted budget, and do they do background checks on their employees. These are all very important questions.

Finally, you want to get a baseline quote. Now most places will not give you a very detailed quote. They cannot tell you how much its going to cost without looking at the situation and even then it can be difficult to get a quote because once you get into a job the situation can change. Sometimes a job looks small but then when you get in to do the work the problem was much bigger than expected. However, you can usually get a basic quote, like how much they charge for a basic service call.

Once you have picked out your plumber, be sure to put the number somewhere easily found in case of an emergency. Ideally, every home owner should have a book with all the business cards of their contractors placed in a cabinet or on a shelf. This way you do not waste time looking for the number when you have water leaking all over the house.
